Cats and Cheezburgers:
A Pictoral History
Widely recognised as the first modern meme - and a precursor to the internet’s lolcats movement - but what are the historical origins of ‘I Can Has Cheezburger?’
Why does the meme go so damn hard? Well, because it is far older than people think. It runs deeper. We are here to uncover the rich tapestry of one of history’s greatest love stories; namely cats and their cheezeburgers.
Our mission is to inform and inspire. We are a community project and some kind of artistic movement perhaps. We have great values and stuff too I guess.
We lovingly restore damaged, donated and salvaged photographs. Underneath it all though: we deal cat jpegs for the sake of $CHEEZ.

We are an open source project - so you can view the galleries for free and ‘right click save’ anything you want.
Do whatever.
News From The Lab
After a kind donation from a private estate, we have come into possession of some antique collodion wet plate photographs taken in Egypt in the 1920s. Our lab is a frenzy of excitement as we preserve and restore the imagery. Sadly, after over 100 years of dry heat, the degradation is extensive.
Most excitingly however, we believe to have uncovered the oldest recorded inscription of the Cheezeburger Meme (above). Expect more updates as we progress with this new project. As ever, a huge thank you to all our supporters - we can’t tell you how exciting this 4,000 year old discovery is!
